Summer Pedagogical Research Institute

Program Description

The Summer Pedagogical Research Institute (SPRI) is a week-long faculty development program designed to support University of Miami faculty interested in conducting Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) research. Through interactive workshops, discussions, and individual project development time, participants learn how to develop meaningful research questions, design appropriate methodologies, navigate the IRB process, and disseminate findings through presentations and publications. SPRI provides faculty with the tools, resources, and collaborative environment needed to investigate their teaching practices and contribute to evidence-based improvements in student learning. Participants leave the program with a well-developed SoTL project plan and a supportive community of colleagues engaged in educational research.

Application Process

Applications for SPRI are open to University of Miami full-time faculty interested in developing a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) project. Selection is based on applicants' enthusiasm for exploring and integrating SoTL into their teaching, commitment to professional growth, openness to collaboration and the exchange of ideas, and interest in contributing to a community of faculty scholars.

Participants are expected to develop a plan for sharing their SoTL work through an appropriate scholarly venue, such as a conference presentation, publication, teaching and learning showcase, or other dissemination opportunity. Selected participants receive a stipend in recognition of their time and commitment to participating in SPRI and advancing their SoTL projects.
