Course Design Institute

Program Description

Spring Break is an opportunity to focus on the work that matters most in teaching. The Spring Break Course Design Institute, taking place March 8-11, 2027, offers faculty four immersive days to design or redesign a course with dedicated time, expert guidance, and the energy of a community working toward the same goal.

Facilitated by course design experts, the Institute will guide participants through each stage of the process, from defining clear learning outcomes to aligning assessments and shaping learning activities that support student success. Throughout the experience, participants will collaborate and interact with peers from other disciplines, trading ideas, testing approaches, and gaining fresh perspectives on their own teaching. Full days of focused work will give participants the uninterrupted time that is rarely available during a busy semester, and they will leave with a course plan ready to put to use in an upcoming term.

In recognition of their time and commitment, each participant will receive a $2,000 stipend, paid through payroll.

Applications are open to University of Miami full-time faculty. The Spring Break Course Design Institute is limited to 15 participants. Applicants will be selected with the aim of bringing together a diverse group of faculty from varied disciplines, career stages, and course types.
