Partners in Education (PiE): A Faculty Learning Community Initiative

What Is PiE?

Partners in Education (PiE) is a pedagogical partnership model in which undergraduate or graduate student consultants collaborate with faculty on course design, classroom teaching, and/or assessment. Drawing on Cook-Sather, Bovill, and Felten's framework, PiE positions students and faculty as      co-creators. This means they share responsibility and decision-making, which differentiates the relationship and pedagogical partnership beyond the typical instructor-student hierarchy. Due to the strong positive results from the pilot model in the Spring of 2025 within Eric Mazur's Active Learning Faculty Learning Community, PiE Faculty Facilitator and PETAL Fellow Kimberly McGrath Moreira has now grown it into its own PETAL initiative.
