PETAL Resources is a diverse selection of tools and techniques to help faculty consciously design teaching and learning activities that are research-based and student-centered. PETAL has collaborated with UM Camner Center for Academic Resources and UM's Libraries to provide all faculty with instructional strategies, course design and assessment, and classroom techniques that improve student engagement, performance, and learning.
LIFE is pleased to share our new Teaching and Learning Resource Hub! There you will find a diverse array of resources including recordings and slide decks from previous workshops and guides that break down teaching strategies such as how to balance student discussion. The hub also comprises important calendar dates, new faculty resources, a TEAL classrooms page, and more! We continue to add new resources from our various workshops and consultations.
The Impactful Teaching Through Active Learning course is a self-paced four-week online course that showcases different methodologies and activities that encourage a more active and learner-centered approach. The course is broken into four modules and dives into strategies and educational tools that support active lecturing, discussions, collaborative learning, and more. The course also comprises several activities for participants to complete such as case studies, discussions, and reflective journal prompts. Participants that successfully complete this course will receive a certificate.
As a part of PETAL's Institutional Academy for Teaching Excellence offerings, this curated resource guide highlights pedagogical resources available in UML's collections and through other leading higher education sources.
The Learning Platforms Team's online training courses were designed to provide faculty and staff with an introduction to the Blackboard Learn interface, functionality, and common tools/features used. These courses are meant to be self-paced and utilized whenever needed by faculty, teaching assistants, and staff. We offer a training course in Original View and one in Ultra View.
